Alappuzha Backwaters
Located at a distance of 150 km from Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha or Alleppey has a number of lakes, canals and lagoons criss-crossing it. It is one of the most famous backwaters destinations in the state offering both short and long cruises to tourists. There are a lot of activities and options to be indulged in here. Apart from visiting the 140-year-old pier and the lighthouse, you can also see popular attractions like the Ambalappuzha Temple, Krishnapuram Temple, St Andrew's Church and the Punnamada Lake which is the venue of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race.

Kumarakom Backwater Tour
Kumarakom is a good reason for Kerala being known as God's Own Country. With mangrove forests and coconut trees decorating the canals and the banks of the water ways, Kumarakom resembles a paradise. With Christianity being the predominant religion, the area is dotted with beautiful churches. Located 10 km from Kottayam and on the Vembanad Lake, Kumarakom is a little village and offers Ayurvedic Massages, Meditation, Yoga, Boating and Fishing facilities. The Pathiramanal Island, near Komarakom has a mythological significance to it. It is believed that the Island was formed when a young Brahmin dived into the Vembanad lake to perform his evening ablutions. Legend says that due to this water gave way for land to rise and thus this Island was formed.

This is the one of the places in the world where farming is done below sea level (1.5 -2 meters below sea level). Inland waterways that flow above the land level is an amazing feature of this land. Kuttanad is the heart of the backwaters of Kerala. This beautiful countryside with its waterways also has a rich crop of banana, Cassava and yam.

Kuttanad is an expanse of water-logged land lying below sea level. It bears B resemblance to Holland in terms of geographical features.

Three rivers, namely Pampa, Manimala and Achankovil, crises cross the length and breadth of Kuttanad. Until a few years back, water was the main mode of transportation, though today buses and trains ply in the region.

Kollam Backwater
